Alcolea is a Spanish municipality in the province of Almeria in the autonomous community of Andalusia, located in the Alpujarra Almeriense region and 68 km from the capital of the province of Almeria. Its population in 2016 was 815 inhabitants (INE).

Within the municipality are also the capital, Alcolea, the towns of Darrícal and Lucainena. Both were part of the municipality of Darrícal, which incorporated the Alcolea in 1997.

The origins of the town go back to the Muslim era where it was called Alcolaya and it was a military population that had five neighborhoods with their corresponding mosques and rabbits, although some historians place their origins in Roman times due to their irrigation system and the discovery of archaeological pieces of the era.1

Of its monumental set highlights the Church of San Sebastian, the Hermitage of San Sebastian and San Ildefonso, the Parish Church of the Holy Angel located in Darrícal and the Church of Santo Cristo del Consuelo and the Virgin Mary located in Lucainena as well as various archaeological remains as the remains of the Old Castle, those of La Torrecilla in Darrícal or the Fortaleza de Escarientes (old medieval castle).

The economic activity of the municipality is based mainly on the cultivation of olive and almond trees and the production of olive oil.
